So, lately my Facebook newsfeed has been filled with snow and ice pictures from family and friends back in the States. And I admit, I’m totally jealous. I love snowy and icy weather. I love curling up with a good book (or nowadays, my iPad) and seeing the snow pile up, and/or hearing the sleet crackle as it falls outside. It’s so cozy, and I love cozy!
But being in Riyadh this time of year certainly has its perks, as well, and it is those perks that I have chosen to focus on instead of being gloomy at missing out on the delightfully gloomy weather back in Missouri. I know a lot of people back there would be jealous that we got to grill lunch out in the gorgeous sunny weather last Friday!
Mr. Mostafa was in charge of the grill, and he did an excellent job. His work was Andy-approved, as well. When Saleh was at the grill, so was Andy.
“Hey, hey Baba, you know I can help, right? I’m your big helper! Really! I’m not even hungry!”
And when Saleh wasn’t next to the grill, you can be sure that Andy was on guard duty.
“Don’t worry, I’m on the job. No intruders are going to break in and steal our food! No, sir!”
Finally, it was time to make our burgers! Andy was a big help there, as well.
“Just makin’ sure that mustard is up to food safety standards…”
And finally, once we’d all stuffed ourselves, we just sat outside and were lazy. Like Batates here.
Batates always has a plan. (English translation of his name: Potato.) And that plan is to sleep. Smart cat.
So even though there was no snow here on Friday, that certainly doesn’t mean there was no cozy.
Aww you guys are such a cute lil family. Andy seems adooorable and so does Batates! lol I love that name, it looks like it suits him/her very well.
awwww, thank you! batates is a “him.”
Growing up in Virginia and then moving to Chicago, I truly miss the snowy weather. Especially like you said with a good book. However I’d rather have no snow and sunny weather all year long when I think of the gloominess that comes with having all 4 differing seasons.
and see, i love the gloom!
too much sun depresses me (unless, of course, i’m near a beach). how cruelly ironic that given that, i would end up in riyadh!
Yumm! I’m thinking of vamping up our housh (yard) here in riyadh and hosting barbecues for family and friends! The weather is beautiful this time of year for being outdoors!(minus the dust :/)
Love the outdoor furnishing btw!
thanks! i think my in-laws did a terrific job of decorating in the hosh. there’s always something new out there!
In Minnesota in late February, I can tell you I am tired of winter.
ha! i’m sure you are, and i’m sure i would be, too. in missouri we only get occasional rounds of winter weather (and sometimes none at all), so the cozy novelty of it never wears off.
i always think that you minnesotans must laugh at us and our school cancellations for a half-inch of snow…
wish it snows here in Malaysia
at least Saudi has some sort of winter. Thank goodness I’ll be back to Jeddah in three months inshallah. Nicole, welcome to my blog, it’s brand new
